CONDUIT investigates the formal relationships between sound, space and the embodied experience. Knierim’s installation of vertical bamboo interrupts regular patterns of movement through the narrow storefront gallery, punctuated by sculptural encounters. A new installation of Jesús Mejía & Ruth’s Circulatory, first presented at the Chicago Cultural Center in 2012, issues sonic waves culled from the artists’ recorded heartbeats through the spatial field circumscribed by the walls of the gallery and Knierim’s vertical interventions. As sounds and bodies travel haphazardly through the space, an opportunity for enhanced self-awareness emerges. A live performance by Jesús Mejia & Ruth at the exhibition opening will further explore the sonic properties of the heart.
