Corkey Sinks (b. 1983, Dallas, TX) lives and works in Chicago. She received a BA in “Media Studies: Art, Film, and the Politics of Images” from the Johnston Center for Integrative Studies at the University of Redlands, CA in 2005 and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2012. Sinks explores patterns and contradictions in evolving value systems. Through constellations of escapist fantasies, conspiracy theories, and contemporary folklore, Sinks seeks practical and psycho-spiritual alternatives to mainstream culture, referencing historical and mythological attempts to isolate oneself from or locate oneself within the dominant culture. Sinks works in a variety of media including sculpture, textiles, and printed matter. Recent projects and exhibitions include a commissioned floor design and installation in an artist’s home, 2: New Collaborative works by Corkey Sinks and Jesse Butcher at Adult Contemporary, Chicago, IL (2013), and RANCH, a group show curated by GURL DONT BE DUMB at Iceberg Projects, Chicago IL (2012).
