An exhibition curated by the Hyde Park Art Center’s Youth Art Board, Dreams and Nightmares, will be on view in Gallery 5 from August 26 until November 11, 2012. This group show will incorporate artwork that explores concepts of dreams and nightmares by members of the Youth Art Board as well as teen artists from Chicago High School for the Arts. The exhibition will include work portraying literal depictions of dreams and nightmares, as well as related concepts, such as “The American Dream,” personal phobias, or individual insecurities.
The Youth Art Board is a group of teens from South Side high schools that explores group projects, curates exhibitions, and represents the Art Center at public events. This year’s Youth Art Board members include include Amere Sabah, Isiah Benson, Brandii Hill, Cathleen Dunning, Lia Miller, Regan Allen, Sarah Hecht, Sonia Jourdain, Haley Ferguson, Qiara Riley, Jahntelle Barton, Larry Sanders, and Maurice Philpotts. These young artists work with Art Center teaching artist Jeriah Hildwine, an instructor of youth and adult programs at Hyde Park Art Center and Lillstreet Art Center, who is currently exhibiting in a solo show at Linda Warren Projects in Chicago.
Please join us and the Youth Art Board as we celebrate their show at a public reception on Sunday, September 23 from 3-5 pm.
