NEW CAPITAL is pleased to announce ANDERSON/MURPHY/NIELSEN
In this exhibition each artist contends with the quotidian, the street, and liminal visual culture, approaching their subjects with varied romance. In the upstairs gallery Justin Anderson’s blurred polaroids heroically recall familiar scenes in an un-heroic format, suggesting Pissaro as much as the discarded snap-shot. Liz Nielsen makes equal claim to the status of abstraction, presenting geometric forms derived from photographic techniques. She celebrates beauty latent within the ordinary. Alternately, in the downstairs gallery, Clive Murphy temporarily elevates the garbage bag to monument and then returns it to its innate flaccidity. This gesture is repeated, alarming the audience, and calling us to attention of the artifice of monolith, and what lies beneath.
Please Join us Saturday, September 22nd from 7-10 PM at 3114 W. Carroll. The exhibition runs though October 14, 2012. New Capital is open Sundays from 1-4 PM and by appointment, firstname.lastname@example.org.
