21MINUS

@ Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago

220 E Chicago Ave

Opening Friday, May 27th, from 1PM - 6PM

The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago’s Teen Creative Agency (TCA) — 25 curious, creative 15-19 year-olds from all over the Chicago who spend every Saturday at the MCA — present the fourth annual 21Minus. At this day-long event, young people take over the MCA and fill it with exciting, eclectic, and unexpected projects that invite visitors to engage with the museum and each other in dynamic ways. 21Minus is curated and produced by TCA and takes place on Saturday, June 11, from 1- 6 pm at MCA Chicago. The event is free for people age 21 and under and their families.

21Minus will feature art experiences designed and led by youth from all over the city and suburbs who proposed project ideas to the TCA and were selected to be part of 21Minus. These projects include:
Sonic sculptures by artists from the city’s Southwest Side
A comic drawing activity led by an artist from Uptown
Dance workshops led by an artist from the Near West Side
Interactive installations by artists from Edgebrook, Streeterville, Norwood Park, Wilmette Glencoe, and Indianapolis, Indiana
Pop-up performances by youth from Crystal Lake and Lincoln Park
Live music performed by bands from Orland Park and Evanston
Photography by youth from the Hyde Park Art Center
Conversations moderated by youth from Media Corps
Sound mixing and projections by youth from Yollocalli
The Teen Creative Agency, founded in 2011, aims to build a community of young artists and thinkers within the context of a larger contemporary arts community in Chicago and develop the next generation of cultural leaders and creative, engaged citizens. TCA meets at the MCA to develop projects with artists, museum staff, and other young people. This tight-knit community is passionate about creative and civic exchange and works to make the MCA a platform for fresh and emerging ideas.
